The consequences of the Second Wiorld War were recently cleared away when Czechoslovakia freed itself from communism in the Velvet Revolution. After 50 years of various dictatorships and the Iron Curtain, good-neighbourly relations, friendships and contacts can be established again. Our region has been experiencing rapid social and economic change due to the border opening, the further deveolopment of which cannot yet be forseen
The Rotary Club of Geras-Waldviertel took the resulting opportunities straight away and as early as 1990 it played an important role in supporting the foundation of a Rotary Club in Znaim. It further made many contacts with the other newly-created clubs in the Czech Republic.
