Rotary in Belarus
(The country of the Chernobyl disaster)
This part of the former USSR lies immediately east of Lithuania, with which it was once united as the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, north of Ukraine, and west of the Russian Federation.
Its only Rotary Club in 1997 was the Rotary Club of Minsk. This Club received its Charter in 1994 and its Charter President was Alexander Berzberdy..
A second Gomei Club was chartered in 1998.
A French District Governor oversees this Club and it makes up part of the Rotary development zone (District) 20. This club claims to have produced the first Rotary Home page in the former USSR, and it is absolutely brilliant….
To all who thought Dachau, Bergen Belsen, and Auschwitz were unbelievable places of gross evil…. have a good hard look at the articles in Minsk RC homepages dealing with "KURAPATHY ".
The slaughter of innocent people, intellectuals, leaders, and even hard working peasants recorded in these pages as having been perpetrated by Jozef Stalins henchmen, is equally applicable to the situation in the Baltic Republics, the Ukraine, and had of course been going on for years in Russia and its satelites
